Parking

Travel to Campus

Information on travel to our campuses can be found the contacts maps and campuses pages.

Parking spaces are extremely limited, particularly at our Headington and Marston campuses. When practically possible, individuals are encouraged to use public transport options including Park and Rides. Information on bus services in Oxford can be found our Travelling by bus page.

The BROOKESbus service operates between all Oxford campuses and Halls of Residences, as well as calling at Oxford city, train station and Thornhill and Seacourt park and rides.

Parking on Campus

Staff and students are required to have a parking permit and visitors must have a pre-booked parking space (booked by the staff member/ department they are visiting).

For accessible bay parking, council issued Blue Badge holders will need to clearly display their badge whilst parked on campus. We ask these staff and students to apply for a free Oxford Brookes virtual Blue Badge permit, for our records.

All vehicles must be parked according to the University’s Parking Policy.

Please be aware that the University received planning permission in June 2022 for a new purpose built workshop on the Headington Campus. The new development will be built on the location of the Headington Hill top car park, resulting in spaces on that part of the site becoming unavailable once work begins. Construction work began in November 2022.

Parking permit applications

Before you can apply for a parking permit you must first create an account. View our instructions on how to:

  1. Create a permit account
  2. Apply for a parking permit
  3. Online Payment System

Virtual Parking Permit System

Oxford Brookes University operates a virtual permit system, linked to vehicle registration.

Parking permits are required for parking during peak hours (07:00 - 16:30, Monday to Friday), with associated parking charges applicable when the vehicle is parked in the University's car parks. More information about the permit system, can be found on the FAQs webpage.

Staff and students

Staff and students can create a virtual parking account. Once active, account holders can make a permit application, based on the permit eligibility criteria.

For permit holders, a daily charge is applicable when parking during peak hours. Permit holders can pay online via their online parking account or at the ‘pay and display’ machines, although a ticket will not need to be displayed.

Please note, in accordance with Oxford City Council planning regulations, students living in University Halls of Residences are not permitted to have a vehicle in the city or at their accommodation.

Please be aware that possession of a permit does not guarantee a parking space and permit holders parking outside of peak hours, are exempt from the off peak parking charges.

Visitors

During peak hours, visitors enquiring about parking on campus, will need a parking space pre-booked by a member of Oxford Brookes staff, via the visitor parking portal.

Electric vehicles

Electric vehicle charge points can be found at our Headington Hill Hall and Wheatley car parks.

Please note, HMRC views the University’s provision of free-of-charge charging as a benefit in kind to the user. However, there is currently a specific exemption in place for workplace charging. The relevant tax law is Section 237A of the Income Tax (Earnings and Pensions) Act 2003.
