Details
Oxford Gastronomica is a specialist centre within the Department of Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism at Oxford Brookes University, supported by senior figures from hospitality, dedicated to the promotion of education and understanding of food and drink culture.
Oxford Gastronomica will be running two short courses taking place in September 2010:
Food and Drink Journalism – Guy Dimond of Time Out, London and Susan Low of Delicious Magazine team up to share the basics of successful freelance journalism – from pitching to following a brief. Writing recipes and restaurant reviews as well as the importance of design and photography in food media will be emphasised. Ethical issues such as the role of PR and ‘good journalism’ versus ‘churnalism’ will be discussed.
The Language of Wine – Marc Millon, author and wine writer, places wine in the context of Western Civilisation from antiquity to the present day, considers the language of wine and explores the role of wine in Society. Marc is supported by Guest Lecturers Professor Damian Robinson, The Institute of Archaeology, Oxford University; Alastair Peebles – Master of Wine and Fiona Beckett the award-winning wine writer.
It is envisaged that these courses will provide staff development for people already working in the food and wine industries and further details are on the website for your information. Please visit our website http://oxfordgastronomica.brookes.ac.uk/events/ShortCourses/OGshortCourses.html for the full course programme and booking form.
We look forward to welcoming you and members of your staff to Oxford Gastronomica and to working with your organisation to promote excellence within hospitality for the future. If we cannot tempt you on this occasion, please save Oxford Gastronomica as a favourite and keep updated with our exciting programme of events throughout the year.
