David Fryer Memorial Lecture

Planning effectively for sustainable economic growth requires that a clear, evidence-based economic strategy is already in place. All too often, economic strategies have to be retro-fitted into an existing planning and spatial framework and the two do not necessarily join up to provide the basis for improved economic prosperity. The lecture will focus on how to design and develop economic strategies at different spatial levels – regional, sub-regional and especially local – and the challenges of trying to ensure that planning and economic strategy fit together as effectively as possible for the good of local economies and communities.

Professor Jim Coleman is a highly experienced economist, specialising in local and regional economic development and urban regeneration. He currently leads the London office of Regeneris Consulting Ltd, a firm specialising in economic development research.
