From the global phenomenon of Walking with Dinosaurs – the Arena Spectacular to the anarchic TV spin off comedy science stage show Brainiac Live! there has been a recent explosion in the number of large scale science shows. Is this just passing fashion, or is there a real role and opportunity to engage young – and not so young – people in science through the world of entertainment? Dan Colman looks at the mix of celebrity and brand, innovation and creativity, business and education and asks how these elements can work together to expand the nation’s interest in science.

Dan Colman graduated from Oxford Polytechnic in 1991 and has spent the last 20 years running his own theatre production companies. Recognised with a number of awards including three times winner of the Olivier for Best Entertainment his current shows include Science Museum Live!; Guinness World Records – Science Live! and Brainiac Live!. Dan Colman has recently been appointed as Creative Partner for the Engineering Board’s BIG BANG events.
