Anthony Smith was the president of Magdalen College, Oxford, 1988 - 2005. Formerly a BBC current affairs producer and Editor of the nightly 'Twentyfour Hours' programme he became Director of the British Film Institute (1970-1988), a Director of Channel Four and a Member of The Arts Council. Today he is Chair of the Oxford-Russia Fund which supports higher education in Russia and serves on the Boards of The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the choir of The Sixteen.
