Bridget Ogilvie

Bridget Ogilvie grew up on an Australian sheep farm and did her first degree in Rural Science at the University of New England.She came to the UK as a Commonwealth Scholar at the Cambridge University Veterinary School where she took her PhD. She worked as a research scientist for 17 years at the Medical Research Council's National Institute for Medical Research interested on the immune response to parasites.She joined the staff of the Wellcome Trust where she worked for 19 years, finally as its Director from 1991-1998.

She has served as a Board member of many organisations concerned with science and education including the National Museum of Science and Industry, Medicines for Malaria Venture, Cancer Research UK and Sense about Science. She has a particular interest in science communication and the importance of medical science, industry and not-for-profit organisations working together.
