Chris Gent joined the Board of GlaxoSmithKline plc as Deputy Chairman in June 2004 and assumed the role of Non-Executive Chairman in January this year. He is the former CEO of Vodafone Group Plc. Prior to his retirement from Vodafone in July 2003, Sir Christopher had been a member of its Board since 1985 and its CEO since 1997. He joined Vodafone as Managing Director of Vodafone Limited in 1985 when the mobile phone service was first launched in the UK.
