Colin Dexter OBE
Year conferred: 1998
Former classics master Colin Dexter is the creator of probably the best-known fictional Oxbridge alumnus in the country. He began writing the Inspector Morse novels in the early 1970s. In the mid-1990s, after 13 books, a handful of short stories and a long-running television series, Colin secured his retirement from writing Morse novels with The Remorseful Day. Other highlights of his recent past include being made an Honorary Fellow of St Cross College, Oxford.
