David Elliott

David Elliott is a cultural historian whose main interests concern the visual cultures of central and eastern Europe and the non-western world since the late 19th century. From the early 1980s he has formulated a series of pioneering exhibitions integrating non-western art with contemporary art, as well as publishing a wide range of books, articles and catalogues. Between 1976 and 1996 David was Director of the Museum of Modern Art in Oxford. Since then he has directed museums in Stockholm, Tokyo and in Istanbul and in 2010 was artistic director of the 17th Biennale of Sydney. He is currently working on projects in New York, London and Hong Kong.
