David Smith

Sir David Smith studied Botany at The Queen’s College, Oxford, and went on to become Sibthorpian Professor of Rural Economy at Oxford. After a period as Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, Sir David returned to Oxford as President of Wolfson College. Now retired, he recently chaired a year-long enquiry into the future of the Scottish fishing industry under the auspices of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He has just competed a term as President of the Linnean Society of London.
