Denis Owen

Dr Denis Owen joined the then Oxford Polytechnic in 1973, and remained on the staff until his retirement in 1996. His biological research was combined with undergraduate teaching and PhD supervision.

Denis began his academic career as a field assistant at the Edward Grey Institute of Field Ornithology at the University of Oxford. Following four years as a teaching fellow in zoology at the University of Michigan, he held a number of posts in various African countries. He then took up a professorship of topical ecology at the University of Lund, Sweden. His abiding interest was science education and research in sub-Saharan Africa. Denis died in late 1996.
