Emeka Anyaoku is a Nigerian diplomat. He was elected Deputy Secretary-General of the Commonwealth in 1977, served as Nigeria's Foreign Minister in 1983 and became Secretary-General of the Commonwealth in 1990. In his long career he has been a member of the council of numerous public and charitable bodies, including the Selly Oak Colleges, Save the Children, governing board of the South Centre and Democracy Coalition Project (Washington).
He has also been International President of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Trustee of the British Museum and Chairman Presidential Advisory Council on Foreign Affairs in Nigeria. In addition to the national honours conferred on him by the Governments of Trinidad & Tobago, Cameroun, Lesotho, Namibia and Madagascar, he was made Commander of the Order of the Niger (Nigeria) in 1982, Honorary Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (UK) in 2000 and Commander of the Federal Republic (Nigeria) in 2003.
