Dr Graham Owens was Director of the Steel Construction Institute (SCI) from 1992 until his retirement in 2007 and continues his association with the institute in a consultant capacity. Under his leadership, it became the acknowledged world leader in the provision of technical information on steel in construction. During his tenure, the SCI also began its long and fruitful collaboration with Oxford Brookes, with the creation of the Steel Construction Institute Readership in the university’s Department of Architecture in 1994.
Among his many distinctions, Graham is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacturers and Commerce. He is president of the Institution of Structural Engineers.
