Jennifer Jenkins' offices and appointments have been many and varied. During the 1940s she worked for the Ministry of Labour in what today is the Policy Studies Institute. Later in her career, Dame Jennifer chaired the Consumers' Association (1965-1976), the North Kensington Amenity Trust (1974-1977), the Historic Buildings Council for England (1975-1984) and the National Trust (1986-90). She is an Honorary Fellow of both the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and the Royal Institute of British Architects. Now retired, Dame Jennifer continues to be a Trustee of the Civic Trust.
