Jerzy Kalisiak

Prof. dr. hab. Jerzy Kalisiak, began his academic career at the Main School of Planning and Statistics, SGPiS, renamed the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH), as a lecturer and for many years served Poland’s renowned business school as a dean. During his tenure with SGH he created a new faculty for the school and was recognized by his peers as an innovator in education.
As a Fulbright scholar (1972-73) at the Wharton School of Business in Pennsylvania, he began work on a vision for a new approach to learning whose fruits we witness today: POU is a school with innovative teaching methods and a patented teaching system born of Prof. Kalisiak’s work.
In 1980 at the age of 38 he received his professorship. Acknowledged for his considerable contribution to the field of economics, Prof. Kalisiak was awarded Poland’s prestigious Belvedere professorship by the President of the Republic of Poland and was honoured as the youngest Belvedere professor of his time.
As a result of his work in education, Professor Kalisiak received further distinctions and awards:
- The Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for distinguished services in the field of education, was presented to Prof. Kalisiak on the 13th of December, 2000 by Poland’s President
- The Commission of National Education Medal for outstanding merit in the field of education was presented to him on the 30th of September, 1997 by the Minister of Education
- The Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta for his endeavours in the field of education
He was awarded, in 1996 a Ph.D. Honoris Causa from Thames Valley University (with which POU cooperated from 1990 to 2000), and in 2005 received a Ph.D. Honoris Causa from Oxford Brookes University.
Jerzy died in January 2009.
