Professor Joyce Hill

Joyce Hill was founding director of the UK-wide Higher Education Equality Challenge Unit, which promotes equal opportunities in the sector. Her expertise in this field is much sought after and she has advised influential organisations on race and gender equality and disability rights.

During a 30-year academic career at the University of Leeds, she became Professor of Old and Middle English Language and Literature and was the University's first woman Pro-Vice-Chancellor.

A Fellow both of the Royal Society of Arts and of the English Association, Professor Hill is an honorary member of the International Society of Anglo-Saxonists, in recognition of her international standing in that academic field, and Emeritus Professor of the University of Leeds.
