Kevin McCloud

Kevin McCloud is best known for Channel 4's Grand Designs and for his annual coverage of the Stirling Prize. Kevin's other forays into television include Don't Look Down (BBC2, 2002), Demolition (Channel 4, 2005) and Kevin McCloud and the Big Town Plan (Channel 4, 2008). 2009 sees a major four-part Channel 4 series about the European Grand Tour.

Kevin also writes columns for Grand Designs Magazine and The Sunday Times, and has written several books about decoration, lighting, colour and buildings. Kevin studied History of Art and Architecture at Cambridge and then retrained and worked as a theatre designer. He now runs a product design practice and between 1987 and 2002, had his own lighting company, working on some of the finest buildings in Europe, including Ely Cathedral and Edinburgh Castle.

Since 2001 he has designed product ranges for Debenhams, Heal's and Fired Earth and is presently designing a range for Samuel Heath and John Lewis. In 2006 Kevin founded the development company Hab (happiness, architecture, beauty) which is now working on housing projects in Swindon.

He is a recalcitrant patron of several architectural and sustainable charities, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Foresters, an Honorary Fellow of the RIBA and a WWF Ambassador.
