Dr Marilyn Butler

On being appointed Rector of Exeter College, Oxford in 1993, Marilyn Butler became the first woman to head a former all-male college at either Oxford or Cambridge. Formerly King Edward VII Professor of English Literature at the University of Cambridge (1989-1993), Marilyn’s books include Jane Austin and the War of Ideas (1975).
