Pat Symonds has been working in motorsport since 1976, when he joined manufacturer Hawke as chief designer on Formula Ford and Formula 3 projects. In 2000 he became Executive Director of Engineering for Benetton, a position he retained when the team became Renault F1. In 2008 he led the team to fourth place in the Formula 1 World Championship with wins in the Singapore and Japanese Grand Prixs.
Pat left Renault F1 in September 2009.
