Dr Kent is an alumnus of Birmingham University and Jesus College, Oxford. He first became involved with Oxford Brookes in 1964, as governor of Oxford college of Technology, continued as Vice-Chair and then Chair of Governors at the polytechnic, and a foundatiojn governor of Oxford Brookes University. His academic discipline was biochemistry, and he has held academic posts at various universities, including Oxford, Durham, Princeton, and Harvard. A career centred on research led to numerous articles in major scientific journals and latterly to consultancy work.
Although largely retired, he is Censor of Degrees at Christ Church, Oxford.
