Professor Philip Barker

Philip Barker is Head of the Centre for Psychiatric Nursing Practice Research at the University of Newcastle. He is also a nurse practitioner and psychotherapist specialising in caring for people with severe depression and psychosis. In 1993 he was appointed the United Kingdom's first Professor of Psychiatric Nursing Practice. Philip has been a visiting professor at the Universities of Sydney, Auckland, Barcelona, Adelaide, and Tokyo, where he developed his long-standing interest in the Zen-influenced Morita psychotherapy.
