Dr Richard Simmons

Richard Simmons has made a major contribution to the improvement of cities and the places we live. As Chief Executive of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment since 2004, he has led the national agenda on high quality urban design.

He was previously Director of Development at Medway District Council, where he helped tackle the practical issues in developing the vision for the Thames Gateway. In earlier roles he helped promote the regeneration of the artists’ quarter of Hoxton and led large scale development programmes in the Royal Docks and Canary Wharf.
