Steve Redgrave made history in September 2000 by winning Olympic gold at five consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2000 - a unique event in the annals of Olympic endurance events.
He was made an MBE in 1987, CBE in 1997 and received his Knighthood in 2001.
In 2002, his achievement of winning gold medals at five consecutive Olympic games was voted the greatest sporting moment in Channel 4's 100 Greatest Sporting Moments.
In April 2006 he completed his third London Marathon with his wife Ann, and continues to raise funds to a total of over £1,800,000 for diabetes and other causes.
