Tony Hoare

Sir Tony Hoare's career in computing began in 1960 when he took up a position as Programmer at Elliott Brothers in London, where he became the Company's Chief Scientist. He entered academia as Professor of Computing Science at the Queen's University, Belfast, before moving to the University of Oxford in 1977. He went on to become Senior Researcher at Microsoft Research in Cambridge, and was awarded a knighthood for services to computer science in 2000.
