Liberal Democrat Front Bench Spokesman in The Lords - 1997-99, Lord Thurso was spokesman for Scotland in 2001-06, Transport 04-06, Business, Enterprise, and Regulatory Reform (BERR) 08 -10. He is a member of the Treasury Select Committee,Chair of the Finance & Services Committee and a member of both the Audit Committee and House of Commons Commission.
