William Taylor

William Taylor began his career as a teacher in Primary and Secondary schools before moving into teacher education as head of a department in a College of Education and then as a Lecturer at Oxford University. He was later Professor of Education at the University of Bristol and for ten years Director of the University of London Institute of Education.

His subsequent career included spells as Principal of the University of London and as Vice Chancellor of the University of Hull. He combined these appointments with Chairmanship of the Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education and of the National Foundation for Educational Research. In retirement he served as interim Vice Chancellor of two other Universities and also chaired the Northern Ireland Teacher Education Committee and was President of the Society for Research in Higher Education.

Since 1998 he has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Southampton.
