Hitting 2050 carbon emission targets

Wandering along Nelson Street in Oxford’s Jericho area, the solar panels on the roof of one pretty brick terraced house may catch your eye glinting in the sun.

Of course, solar panels like these are nothing new and can be seen on homes up and down the UK.

What you can’t see, though, are the hidden improvements to the fabric of the whole house to create the most energy efficient and low carbon retrofit in Oxfordshire.

Helping government make big decisions

Successive governments have pledged to slash UK Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 – and that’s where the home at Nelson Street comes in.

Understanding energy use

Professor of Architecture and Climate Change Rajat Gupta, along with research associate Matt Gregg, will spend two years monitoring the Victorian end terrace.

Cutting our energy needs

The technology to cut household energy demand by more than 80 per cent and meet 2050 greenhouse gas emission targets exists right now.
