Fifth place in Green League Table
Oxford Brookes has come 5th place in a new environmental league table of universities, and has also received a First class rating for its environmental credentials.
Britain’s first green league has been put together by the student campaigning group People and Planet and has been published today in the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES). Universities have been ranked according to their environmental performance with key indicators being carbon emissions, recycling rates, and renewable energy sources.
Universities have been given degree style classifications and Oxford Brookes was one of fifteen institutions to receive a First. Out of more than one hundred universities, Brookes came joint 5th place along with the University of Gloucestershire and Queen’s University Belfast. An article in the THESem> highlighted the fact that 100% of Oxford Brookes’ electricity is from renewable sources and referred to our good recycling record.
This recognition follows on from Brookes’ Green Gown commendation earlier this year, when we won ‘highly commended’ in the continuous improvement category for our Sustainable Travel Plan 2006-2010.
