Inauguration of new Vice-Chancellor
Professor Beer is Brookes’ third Vice-Chancellor following the retirement of Professor Graham Upton who led the University for ten years.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the new Vice-Chancellor said:
“I feel enormously privileged in being given the opportunity to lead Oxford Brookes University on to the next, exciting stage in its development. The university attracts staff and students alike because of its outstanding reputation for teaching, its student centred approach to learning, its research, its record of graduate employment and wider public engagement.”
She added: “We have every reason, at Brookes, to look forward with optimism to a future where the university is known for what it has done and will do even better. We will work together, across disciplines, across the community and beyond, to educate our students as global citizens both academically and ethically. We will be investing a huge amount of money in the development of the campus, to provide high quality learning, research and living space but also to unlock the campus to the community.”
Professor Beer joins Brookes from Manchester Metropolitan University where she was Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Law and Social Science.
