Nutritionist appointed to advise Government
Professor Jeya Henry has been made a member of the General Advisory Committee on Science. The Committee was established in December 2007 to provide independent advice to the Government’s Food Standards Agency on the robust use of science and scientific evidence.
The Committee is chaired by eminent scientist Professor Colin Blakemore, and includes representatives of a diverse range of scientific disciplines.
Professor Henry said, “I am honoured to have been appointed as the nutritionist on this committee. It is vitally important that decisions about food, nutrition and health are made on the basis of strong scientific evidence, and I am particularly pleased that my work at Oxford Brookes will play a part in ensuring that this does happen.”
Professor Jeya Henry is Professor of Human Nutrition at Oxford Brookes, and Visiting Professor at the Chinese University, Hong Kong. He acts as consultant to the World Health Organisation, Unicef and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. His current research includes childhood obesity, the glycaemic index, nutrition and dietary needs of the elderly, and the development of high energy food for feeding refugees.
