Researchers - the key to future of the UK economy

Wednesday 28 January 2009, 18:00 to 19:30, Lloyd Lecture Theatre

ResearchDr Janet Metcalfe

Why does research matter? Funding research isn’t cheap, and university researchers often struggle to find sources of funding for their work.

In this lecture, Dr Metcalfe will argue the importance to the UK of developing our researchers and improving the status of research as a profession.

With a long standing involvement in researcher development and training, Dr Metcalfe is editor of the series ‘What Do PhDs Do?’, which analyses the destinations of UK doctoral graduates, and co-author of ‘Employability and Doctoral Research Postgraduates’.

Dr Metcalfe is Director of the UK GRAD Programme that supports the personal, professional and career development of doctoral researchers.
