Student Safety Bus

The Safety Bus

Information about how the Safety Bus service operates and how to volunteer.

About the scheme

The scheme is run jointly by Oxford Brookes Students’ Union (OBSU) and Oxford University Students' Union (OUSU). It was set up to provide a safe means of transport late at night. The Vice President (Women) and Vice President (Charities and Community) are responsible for the OUSU side of the partnership.

How to use the safety bus

To use the service simply ring 07714 445050 between 9 p.m.–3 a.m. Monday to Saturdays and 9 p.m.–12 a.m. on Sundays. The bus will pick you up and deliver you to any destination within the ring road all for a suggested £1 donation per trip. The scheme is available to OBSU and OUSU members. Priority will always be given to vulnerable people and individuals as the emphasis for the scheme is on safety.
Please be aware that the bus depends on volunteers and so is not able to run on nights when volunteers are not available to help out. We advise that you take the phone number of a taxi company with you for such an eventuality.

Volunteering

The Safety Bus is staffed by volunteer drivers and navigators. It cannot run without volunteers. If you would like to apply to be a volunteer please email obsu.safetybus@brookes.ac.uk to apply.

Volunteers receive first aid, conflict resolution and road safety training. It's a great way to meet students from all over Oxford and become part of a committed and fun team.
