Walking
Walking to campus
For people living within a mile or so of Brookes, walking to campus is an option well worth considering. Exercise at the start and end of the day will wake you up in the morning and relax you at night. It is now well documented that walking is one of the best ways of improving health and fitness as well as reducing stress levels.
Five Walking to Headington Campus Maps have been created. Please see the links below.

If you would like a leaflet of any of the walks please contact the Sustainability Teams on sustainability@brookes.ac.uk.
Walking in our local environment is the most basic form of exercise involving no special equipment, no cost and open to all. Not only is the physical health addressed but the wellbeing of each person is promoted by improving the health of both the environment and the community.
Health Walk
If you feel unready to do this, why not try the Brookes Health Walks.
There are three pleasant, short routes through attractive surroundings close to all three campuses. They are designed to take about 40 minutes, depending on your speed.
PDFs are available for all three walks:
- Headington Health Walk
- Wheatley Health Walk
- Harcourt Hill Health Wall
- Gipsy Lane to Marston Walking Routes
You will need Adobe Reader to view PDFs - if you don't have it on your computer you can download it free from the Adobe website.
Also at Wheatley there is a mile long fitness circuit around the grounds with stops for various fitness activities. This circuit can be used by walkers as well as joggers and runners. For a map of the circuit look on the outside wall Sports Changing Block near the tennis courts.
Walking Buddy Scheme
Existing experienced ‘walking to workers’ can help new walkers, or those who haven't walked to work, by showing them good routes and short cuts. This can be done on an informal basis amongst friends or colleagues. It is also a chance for new members of staff to meet staff members in their area. If you would either like to offer to be a buddy or would like to have help from a buddy contact sustainability@brookes.ac.uk
