Oxford Brookes is renowned for the quality of its teaching.
It’s one of the main reasons why we have been voted best modern university by The Sunday Times University Guide. We have also received five sought-after national teaching fellowships: in 2010, two Brookes staff received fellowships, while in 2009, three of our staff were recipients. And in 2011, three Brookes academics were chosen by the Higher Education Academy to become national leaders for learning and teaching.
Our courses are shaped and delivered by teaching staff with strong backgrounds in industry and business. Real-life skills are included wherever possible, often with built in work placements.
Visiting experts also frequently share their knowledge with us, from Kevin McCloud, Channel 4’s design guru and Raymond Blanc, leading chef and restaurateur, to Professor Sir Muir Gray CBE, former chief knowledge officer of the NHS and Niall McNevin, Head of Town Planning Olympic Delivery Authority.
Student learning is supported by a wide range of people and resources, from academic staff and subject librarians to confidential advice on study skills from our popular Upgrade service.
Our students deserve the best facilities in which to experience our top quality teaching, so we’ve embarked on a major redevelopment project to transform teaching, learning and social spaces on our main campus at Gipsy Lane. A new library, studio areas and classrooms, and informal study spaces give students increased flexibility to manage their own learning.
The learning experience of our students is enhanced by being in Oxford - a world class centre for education, science and technology, and at the heart of the UK’s most successful economic region. Students develop their skills through learning and work opportunities provided by our strong links with leading industries and organisations in the region.
