Universities Week 14-20 June
The first ever Universities Week is taking place in June to highlight the essential role played by institutions like Oxford Brookes in sustaining our society, culture and economy.
‘Universities Week: What’s the big idea?’ is centred around a week of activities running from 14-20 June. More than a 100 higher education institutions and linked organisations across the country will be hosting events about the important role of universities locally and nationally, and their impact on the economy, culture, society and the environment.
Universities Week events at Brookes
On Monday June 14, the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford Brookes, Professor Janet Beer, will be joining the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, Professor Andrew Hamilton, to take questions about the commitment of both institutions to the region. The Q&A will be chaired by channel 4 news presenter, Jon Snow, who is backing the Universities Week campaign
On Wednesday June 16, Oxford Brookes is holding an event celebrating the impact of university research. Our School of Life Sciences will be opening its laboratories for local teachers, scientists and researchers during a research showcase.
Economic Contribution report
Oxford Brookes published an economic contribution report in March which shows how the university is adding value financially and socially, bringing more than £1 million a day to the UK economy.
The report also identifies some of the other ways in which Brookes is contributing to society through skills training, volunteering, work with local school and community-based research.
