Strand Two
Strand 2 aims to generate new ideas and innovative practices through robust, theorietically-informed research projects. Projects add value as independent pieces of research, and also as inputs to evidenced-based recommendations about all aspects of assessment policy including assessment strategy, student engagement and staff development.
Strand 2 achieves its aims in a number of ways: by funding pedagogic research projects within the Business School and more recently within other Schools in the University; by proposing and conducting pedagogic research projects using ASKe’s internal research assistants; by conducting bespoke research projects commissioned by the University's Senior Management Team; and by sponsoring senior international academics as visiting fellows with ASKe. Current projects include a longitudinal study of student engagement with assessment, an investigating of how new staff 'come to know' the assessment standards of their local community; and the development of a methodology for examining student performance data in order to understand the influences on student marks.
Research activity has generated a range of outputs for academic practitioners, for students, and for senior management and policy-makers. These include practice-oriented 1,2,3 leaflets, workshops/seminars for Brookes staff and the wider academic community, research reports, academic articles and conference papers.
