A new concept in engineering education
Oxford Brookes University and Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells are the sponsors of Swindon's University Technical College for 14-19 year old students, launched in 2014, which equips the pupils of today to become the much needed engineering professionals of tomorrow.
University Technical Colleges are a new concept in education. They offer 14-19 year olds the opportunity to take a highly regarded, full time, technically-oriented course of study.
Swindon's proposal won government approval in May 2012 to proceed to the development phase and opened its doors to the first cohort of students in September 2014.
The students combine hand and mind to learn in a very practical way, integrating national curriculum requirements with the technical and vocational elements.
Employers have been closely involved with UTC Swindon at all stages of its development, from initial concept to curriculum planning to ongoing work with students.
