Centre for Continuing Education (CCE)
Personal and Professional Development Opportunities
The Centre for Continuing Education was established to extend opportunities
for flexible lifelong learning. The Centre, based at Oxford Brookes'
Westminster
Institute of Education, works with partners within and beyond
the University to offer a variety of events, short courses and more
extended learning opportunities. We cater to a wide range of personal
interests and professional development needs, providing
- Flexible accredited study opportunities for new and returning
learners to Higher Education
- Conferences and short courses supporting continuing professional
development
- Sector-accredited/approved professional training
- A Masters programme in Coaching & Mentoring
Flexible accredited study opportunities for new and returning
learners
Through partnerships with FE, schools and other organisations, the
Centre creates flexible modes of HE-level study to groups of learners
who might otherwise be unable to access such opportunities.
Accredited study at level 1 (undergraduate year 1 equivalent) in
education-related fields is available, in collaboration with schools,
LEAs and FE colleges within the region through the Centre’s
Professional
Practice Framework. Provision at levels 1 and 2 (UG years 1
& 2 equivalent) is also made through the Institute of Education’s
three Foundation degrees, delivered at the Institute and through
partner FE colleges.
Conferences and short courses supporting CPD
Our short
courses listing provides an up-to-date guide to what’s
on offer across the University.
CCE can also offer a conference management service to external
clients.
Sector-accredited/approved professional training
The Centre runs a small number of short courses which have been
either accredited or approved by the relevant sectoral body. These
include courses run with the Department of Hospitality, Leisure
and Tourism Management for licensees, which are accredited by the
British Institute of Innkeepers (see short courses listing); and
training for teachers of adult basic literacy, delivered through
partner FE colleges, and approved by FENTO (see Professional
Practice Framework)
MA in Coaching & Mentoring
Our commitment to supporting personal and professional development
across a wide range of sectors is also evident in our highly successful
and popular MA
in Coaching and Mentoring. A rapidly expanding area of activity,
the importance of coaching and mentoring is increasingly recognised
in both personal and professional contexts as a vehicle to maximise
individual potential, skills, performance and personal development.
The MA, and related short courses, enable participants to relate
theory to practice and to develop appropriate professional skills
and attributes within a rigorous academic environment.
The Centre
for Continuing Education is always happy to consider requests
