We need find suitable employment, we need to be able to do our jobs, and if we ever need to move or change jobs we want to do so with as much choice as possible. So how can we make sure our choices stay open and our prospects remain healthy?

One way is to invest in our skills and knowledge on a regular basis, so we stay in touch with changing workplace practice, new technology and processes, and equip ourselves for new job markets and opportunities.

Oxford Brookes University has a reputation for teaching excellence and vocational learning. As part of our offering to continuing learners we have courses and events taking place in our continuing education programme. The current programme offers a wide range of subjects across many interests and occupations. These courses can last a day or up to a year of part-time study. The choice of subject and how long you study is up to you.

Qualifications

The offering includes non-award-bearing short courses - ranging from half days to several weeks and award-bearing courses involving a year or more of part-time study. These programmes may be held during the day, evening, weekends and through distance or open learning. They can lead to the award of CATS credits that can count towards a recognised qualification.

Included in this offering are postgraduate diplomas and certificates - part-time opportunities to build on first degrees, higher diplomas or professional qualifications.

We are increasing our links with professional associations. Attendance on our courses and events can contribute to the gathering of portfolio evidence or credit you with attendance hours that professional associations often demand from their members. Some courses are recognised or accredited by particular professional associations.

Staff and personal development

In addition to needing technical skills and knowledge many in employment find themselves required to understand more about people skills and the soft skills of working with others, such as communication and teambuilding. Oxford Brookes University can help to acquire these skills in a practical and applied way so that you can make immediate changes in the way you work with others.

General interest

Building on the expertise available in Oxford Brookes University we offer a small selection of programmes designed to meet personal rather than work related interests.
