Research on bicycle waste streams

To celebrate Bike Week and Low Carbon Oxford Week we have published a study on our website into the opportunities for recycling a constant source of waste from our sustainable form of transport. "Assessing the potential for post-use bicycle tyre recycling from UK bicycle retailers and repairers" examines some of the issues and barriers surrounding what is likely to become an increasingly significant waste stream associated with cycling. You can read the paper here.

If you have any ideas on approaches to this waste stream please do contact us.

Brookes celebrates energy savings for 100 Oxfordshire community halls

On Thursday 27 March, the Environmental Information Exchange (EiE) and the Trust for Oxfordshire's Environment (TOE) will present a showcase of feedback on the Enrich project, highlighting improvements community buildings have identified and the over 300 tonnes of CO2e (Carbon Dioxide equivalent) savings. This will take place at Kirtlington village hall from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.

The Enrich Showcase hopes to attract members of communities interested in accessing support, hall committee representatives, as well as those already supporting other community activities.

"We want to highlight community sustainability solutions beyond just energy so people can learn from each other," says EiE's Moira Dorey, who manages the project.

EiE and TOE2 with funding from the Patsy Wood Trust have completed two years of providing energy efficiency support to Oxfordshire community buildings through a project called Enrich. Over £120,000 has been spent on the project. EiE staff audited over 70 community centres and village halls who applied for help.

"We were the perfect partners to work with TOE2 because they wanted assessments that didn't just simply suggest double glazing but looked practically at how a community building can be a beacon of sustainability in a community", remarked EiE's Operations Director Michael Esvelt.

The first Oxfordshire community building to attain the new Eco-Centres environmental standard, with support from EiE, will be announced at the Showcase.

For more information on Enrich or to register for the Showcase Event, please contact EiE.
