Schools Energy Efficiency Programme

(Date - "heading 4") 15th July 2009

The Schools Energy Efficiency Programme is designed to help implement practical solutions to energy saving in state and independent schools.

The programme started with SEEP 2006, a pilot study of two secondary schools. In 2008 SEEP-2 began in Oxfordshire to improve energy efficiency in 20 secondary schools and to develop an effective methodology for turning energy efficiency advice for schools into actions leading to measurable financial and environmental savings. SEEP-2 identified energy savings of 2,143,000 kWh, CO2 reduction of 800 tonnes, and financial savings for the schools of more than £120,000 all in the first year alone. In 2010 SEEP was adopted by Oxfordshire County Council for 11 secondary schools as 'Oxon SE2' . Further developments for SEEP are planned in the future.

The project was carried out with support from the Hamilton Trust and in partnership with the Oxfordshire Independent and State Schools Partnership (OISSP).
