SEEP in 2010 - Oxon SE2
(Date - "heading 4") 15th July 2009
The Schools Energy Efficiency Programme 2010 (Oxon SE2) began in April 2010 supporting 11 state secondary schools in Oxfordshire to reduce their energy use. The project, funded by Oxfordshire County Council, focuses on initially working one to one with the school's facilities managers. The project concludes in March 2011. Project phases include:
- Base line energy assessment calculating annual energy use and associated carbon emissions
- Development of an energy reduction Action Plan, agreed with facilities manager and outlining specific reduction steps
- Ongoing support and follow up on progress towards implementing energy efficiency actions
- Networking and training events with all participating schools
Oxon SE2 recognises that effective reduction in energy use requires all stakeholders to be engaged. Thus specific support is provided to other staff (e.g. IT support, caretakers, teachers leading on environmental awareness in the school) . Another key element is support from senior decision makers so information sessions are also delivered to the headteacher, senior management teams, and school governors.
Networking and training is important to Oxon SE2 as it offers facilities staff an opportunity to meet people in similar roles in other schools to share experiences. Each event features a 'round robin' style discussion on various energy topics. The first networking event (September 2010) included a focus on IT issues with presentations from:
- Alan Garrett (Casio Revolution projectors)
- Dominic Cartwright (Stone Group) on the latest developments for computer networks
- John Ord (Dynamic Energy Solutions) on controlling boiler burn cycles
- Darrell Marchand (Oxfordshire County Council) on loans and funding support for schools
The second networking event will be arranged for March 2011
