Developing SEEP
(Date - "heading 4") 15th July 2009
There are a number of developments for SEEP in the near future.
SOCIAL BMS - a project in school buildings to connect users to energy use
Issues:
- There is a disconnect between people, energy use, and their building
- A traditional Building Management System (BMS) takes away people's responsibility for the energy their buidling consumes
- People no longer identify themselves within this system
The solution:
- Social BMS is a completely new concept in engaging users with their buildings and energy use
- It uses fun interactive interventions, developed with students to help re-engage them with their building
- A fresh approach to interation aimed at teenagers, using their interests
- In the short term the pilot will encourage behaviour change resulting in energy use reduction
- In the long term the pilot aims to foster a cultural shift in how future generations take responsibility for energy use in buildings
CASCADE - Energy Efficiency pilot for Primary Schools
Issue:
- Most primary schools do not employ dedicated site managers so many related duties fall upon the headteacher or bursar who often have no specialist knowledge on energy efficiency
The solution:
- CASCADE will build on the success of SEEP to provide energy efficiency help within primary schools
- Partnership primary schools already benefit from expertise provided by secondary schools. CASCADE would expand this benefit to site manager's knowledge of energy efficiency
- Several secondary school site managers would mentor local primary schools particularly in the areas of heating, lighting, and applicance control
CARBON CARETAKERS - Online network to transfer energy efficiency knowledge from school to school
Issue:
- School site managers are busy and have many responsibilities, including decisions that affect energy efficiency
The solution:
- CARBON CARETAKERS will be an online networking and training resource on energy efficiency for school site staff
- The resource will provide information on solutions to energy efficiency problems
- Experiences with particular energy efficiency products will be shared by schools
- There will be a forum for asking and answering technical questions
- Case studies on best practice will be available
- Contacts for local support will be shared
- Webinars on specialist subjects will further the networking experience
