Security
Campus Patrols
Campus Services will monitor the security and general safety of the Campus, this will include:

Allow access to staff into buildings when keys have been lost or forgotten.

Conduct internal and external high profile public safety and crime prevention patrols on campus

Deal pro-actively with any anti-social behaviour on Campus (The Support for you: In all cases contact Campus Services who will make arrangement to call the Police if appropriate)
CCTV
Campus Services will maintain the CCTV system to ensure site security and the safety of staff, students and visitors. The University has an obligation to comply with the provision of the Data Protection Act 1998 and is operated to the Information Commissioner’s Code of Practice for the use of CCTV. The system is managed locally on each site by the Campus Manager.
The system will only be issued for the following purposes:

To reduce the fear of crime and to reassure students, staff and visitors.

To prevent,deter and detect vehicle related crime, criminal damage and public disorder.

To identify, apprehend and prosecute offenders in relation to crime, criminal damage, public order and all forms of harassment cases.

To provide the Police, the University, Customs and Excise and the Health & Safety Executive with evidence upon which to take criminal and civil actions in the courts.

To assist other emergency services in addition to the Police.
Crime Reporting
It is the responsibility of all staff and students of the University to report all activity, suspected or real, of a criminal nature. Incident reporting is crucial to the identification of patterns of criminal activity. It permits investigation and recommendations to be made to prevent a recurrence. Comprehensive reporting of incidents provides an accurate picture of the level of crime throughout the University and ensues that adequate resources are provided to combat crime. Success in the University’s fight against crime is greatly enhanced by fast, efficient and detailed reporting.

All incidents of a security nature should be reported in the first instance to Campus Services on ext 3060 (01865 483060) – 24 hours.

All available information should be included – time, location, persons involved, items messing etc.

An Incident Report Proforma should be completed as soon as possible after the event by the person reporting the incident and sent to the Campus Manager.

Local Police should be informed in all cases of reported crimes of assault, indecency, fraud, theft (including car or bicycle theft) and burglary. In case of doubt. All Police involvement on campus is to be notified to the Campus Manager to enable effective University management of any subsequent actions on University premises.
