Generic Research Evidence

There is vast research and scholarly literature on teaching/research relations - and as with other research areas there are marked differences in interpretations of that research evidence.

Sadly many discussions inside and outside universities on teaching and reserach ignore this evidence. Sound policy and practice should see this as a key reference point.

For an annotated bibliography of the research evidence click here

For one interpretation of the evidence see the following document (available in either word or pdf format):
" Summary Review of the Research and Scholarly Evidence on Teaching/Research Relationships in Higher Education", Alan Jenkins, Oxford Brookes University, prepared for Seminar on Teaching/Research Relationships, Southampton, January 2000; as part of HEFCE Fundamental Review of Research. Published in Southampton Institute, The Relationship Between Research and Teaching in Higher Education: Present Realities, Future Possibilities, pages 23-33. Reproduced by permission.

For a document that interprets the research evidence and then suggests the implications for course teams, see the following document, produced by Alan Jenkins for the ILT accredited course for new academic staff at Oxford Brookes University.
