Digital video editing

The Graphics Workshop offers comprehensive video editing facilities that let you:

  • Capture from Mini DV, high definition sources (HDV) and VHS (plus other analogue formats if you bring in the camcorder). We also support AVCHD high definition video.
  • Edit clips into multiple sequences
  • Add static or animated titles
  • Add special effects and transitions
  • Output the finished piece to DVD, Blu-ray, the Web or to tape.

Video editing software is available on both the PC and Macintosh platforms.

Camcorders are available for hire from AV Services.

Apple Final Cut Pro HD (on Macintosh only)

This powerful, feature-rich package is considered to be the professional choice for high end video editing. Final Cut Pro offers, amongst other things:

  • Professional-standard editing tools
  • Built-in video effects and transitions
  • Sophisticated compositing tools
  • Professional media management
  • Ability to preview transitions and effects in realtime

Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 (on PC & Mac)

A simple-to-use but powerful professional video editing tool. Now running natively as a 64-bit application:

  • Direct support for IEEE 1394 (FireWire/i-Link) - enabling video capture from HDV/DV devices
  • Built-in video effects and transitions
  • Support for high definition (AVCHF and HDV) video
  • OnLocation feature captures directly from camera into Premiere
  • Storyboard window
  • Multiple timelines
  • Integration with Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects
  • Enhanced audio editing facilities

Adobe After Effects CS5 (on PC & Mac)

After Effects is a compositing and animation tool which can be used to combine video, still images, graphics and text in 2d or 3d space. The resulting compositions can be exported as standalone pieces or incorporated into a larger video sequence, for example, as animated opening titles. After Effects ships with hundreds of built-in special effects, all of which can be fully animated.
