The Westminster Institute of Education was recently visited by the Vice Chancellor of the Universidad Chileno-Británica de Cultura (Chilean-British University of Culture), Maria Cristina Brieba. Maria has previously visited the Institute and is particularly interested in Teaching English as a Foreign Language within primary education. She was greeted by and spoke with many academics from the Institute’s and including Bob Waugh, Steve Rayner, Nick Mead, Simon Catling, Nick Swarbrick and Paul Wickens. International students from the MA in Education (TESOL) joined Maria for lunch to discuss their differing experiences of teaching English as a foreign language and to speakers of other languages. The possibility of student and staff placements and exchanges between the Universidad Chileno-Británica de Cultura and Oxford Brookes University were also explored by Maria on her visit. Professor Steve Rayner is to visit Maria and her university in Chile later this year.
