Dr Maia Pal, lecturer in International Relations at Oxford Brookes University, has been made a permanent member of the teaching and research staff in the Department of Social Sciences.

Having earned her PhD at the University of Sussex, Dr Pal went on to hold teaching positions at the University of Sussex and the University of Brighton. Her research focuses on extraterritoriality and the history of international law, both of which feature in the modules she will teach.

When asked about this new content being introduced to the modules for International Relations students at Oxford Brookes, Dr Pal said: “We’re completely remodelling the introduction to International Relations module. It’ll be based a lot more on history, specifically non-eurocentric history, which is key to understanding the subject.”

Dr Pal expressed her delight at being offered the permanent role and commended the university; “The collegiality between the faculty is really fantastic, everyone's extremely supportive. There is a lot of opportunity to share modules and design our own based on our expertise.”

The department offers Dr Pal their warmest congratulations!
