Economic and Social Data Service (ESDS)
This is a national data service providing key economic and social data and requires the use of an Athens password. ESDS International is particularly useful for Economic and Business students as it contains OECD data including OECD Main Economic Indicators, IMF data including the Direction of Trade statistics and IMF International Financial Statistics, Eurostat New Cronos, World Bank data, Time series data etc.
International Monetary Fund (IMF)
This site contains details of IMF Finances and Country Information as well as the excellent World Economic Outlook which is published twice yearly and analyses global economic development.
The OECD has 30 member countries and covers economic and social issues from macroeconomics, to trade, education, development and science and innovation. Some statistics from nonmember countries such as Brazil, China, India etc. are also included in their publications. Some statistics are free and some are subscription only, however the Library does have access to the OECD factbook 2010, OECD Observer and OECD Economic Outlook in the OECDiLibrary. OECD Economic Surveys and OECD Economic Outlook are also available on Business Source Complete.
This United Nations webpage provides excellent links to National Statistics Offices worldwide. Access to the information varies, however, some of the better sites provide all of the official government statistics and commentary for free. The page is divided into the five continents of Africa, America, Asia, Europe and Oceania and countries are listed alphabetically under their continent heading.
UNCTAD World Investment Reports
The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) World Investment Reports have been published annually since 1991 and cover the latest trends in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Print editions are available in Wheatley Library (Oversize 332.673/UNI).
United Nations Statistics Division
The Statistical Database page contains links to databases (both unrestricted and subscription), such as the millennium development indicators (including country profiles). The National Statistics Offices webpage contains useful links and data sources.
The World
Bank's Data and Statistics page has links to country information under its Countries tab and by selecting the Data Catalog tab, you can gain access to publications like World Development Indicators and African Development Indicators.
The Development Gateway was started by the World Bank and is now an international nonprofit organisation. It can be a useful source of development data and includes links to AidData and Zunia, a recently redesigned portal for development professionals.

Development Indicators
This is the World Bank's premier annual compilation of data about development. The WDI includes more that 800 indicators in 90 tables organised in 6 sections: World View, People, Environment, Economy, States and Markets and Global Links. Print editions are available in Headington and Wheatley Libraries (Statistics Collection 330.0212/WOR).

Outlook
This annual publication, produced by the Asian Development Bank,
reviews the economic situation over Asia and the Pacific region
and reviews each country, including Pacific islands separately.
United Nations
Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP)
Statistical
Indicators for Asia and Pacific is an online resource provided
by UNESCAP and updated on a quarterly basis. Data includes figures
on population, industry, transport, internal and external trade,
prices and financial statistics in selected countries or areas of
the ESCAP region. Asia
- Pacific in Figures 2006 is a pocketbook annual publication
which gives one-country-one-page statistical information on selected
indicators on national accounts and prices, finance, trade, transport
and tourisem, population, health, education, labour force and production,
national resources and environment, and development. Development
matters are also covered in the UN's Economic
and Social Survey of Asia and the Pacific which is produced
by the Poverty and Development division of UNESCAP and reviews the
current economic situation of the region as well as the issues and
challenges facing it over the next 12 months. Key
Economic Developments and Prospects in the Asia-Pacific region analyses
developments in the global economy and monitors their impact on
the entire Pacific Rim region. The Asian Pacific Development Journal
is also available for free on this site.
European statistics
European Central
Bank Monthly Bulletin
This bulletin reviews the economy of Europe and the Euro area and
can be downloaded from the European Central Bank web site. Click
on "Publications" then "Monthly Bulletin".
Eurostat
Eurostat is the Statistical Office of the European Communities.
The statistical data is freely available and covers all aspects
of the European Union and Euro zone. Themes covered include economy
and finance, population and social conditions, industry, trade and
services, agriculture, external trade, transport, environment and
energy, and science and technology. General statistics include European
Union and non-EU countries. Eurostat
publications, such as the Statistics
in Focus series, are also freely available online but you will need to register on the Eurostat website to gain access to certain data.
Europe
in figures - Eurostat yearbook 2010
This contains statistical information on how Europe's society,
economy and environment is changing. Statistics are available on
the growth of the economy, business activity, changes in society,
environment, agriculture, etc. The yearbook can be downloaded free
of charge but you will need to register on the Eurostat website to gain access..
UK statistics
This is the home of official UK Statistics containing statistics on the UK economy, business, population and society. The latest Inflation figures, GDP, population etc. can be found on the Key figures page or by selecting Economy from the top of the homepage. The browse by theme menu will allow you to view the statistics available thematically, for example by selecting Economy to find links to the Balance of Payments, National Accounts, Price Indices and Inflation, etc.
Times Series Data is available via the Data tab. The website contains economic and socio-economic statistical data from over 40,000 major National Statistics releases. Some of the series start from 1948. You can access individual series by going through different screen selections to get the series you want which you can then download into Excel.
Well known official publications like the United Kingdom National Account -The Blue Book ,the Balance of Payments - Pink Book, Economic Trends and Financial Statistics etc. for 2000 onwards can be found by using the Publications tab or putting the title of the publication you need in the search box.
HM Treasury
The Treasury is the UK's economic and finance ministry and contains
useful UK data, including the Budget.
The Economic
data and tools section has links to downloadable statistics
such as the weekly
economic indicators page which includes the Pocket Data Bank.
This is a weekly publication which contains time-series data for
a range of national and international indicators as an Excel file.
Bank
of England Statistics
The Bank publishes a range of monetary and financial statistics
including domestic and international banking statistics. The
Bank of England Statistical Interactive Database can be searched,
navigated by the use of the tables provided or by using the A-Z
listings.
