  • Accounts for over 28,500 active public limited (or equivalent) companies and 9,500 inactive companies (liquidated or acquired) in more than 55 countries covering more than 98% of the world's stock market value dating back to 1982. That is nearly all Public Limited Companies quoted on World Stock Exchanges. Accounting items are standardised to make inter-company comparisons feasible. Data originates from the Thomson Worldscope database.
  • Share price data for the companies dating back 10 years with Price Close, High, Low, Volume, Returns, Dividends, etc.

There is no standard, guaranteed content for reports. See the notes below. Nearly 4,000 new reports are added each business day.
  • Company reports. Most, as a minimum, provide a share price rating and some might be only one page long. But they can be much more substantial. They often provide in depth analysis of finance but some evaluate companies and analyse their business, determine trends in an industry, identify major players in a market, give market share forecasts, examine the historical performance of a companies and SWOT analyses can sometimes be found. Particular initiatives, such as Tesco's move into the USA may be covered in depth. Analysts often have access to executives in companies and interviews with Chief Executive Officers can be included.
  • Industry reports giving an overview of the overall performance, competitive landscape and market are also available.Often extensive regular bulletins are provided.
  • Geographic and Investing/Economic reports provide commentary on the economies and markets in which companies and industries operate and again often extensive regular, even weekly, bulletins can be provided.
  • Most prestigious contributors include Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, UBS, Deutsche Bank, J. P. Morgan, and Global Markets Direct.

How to use Thomson ONE Banker Analytics

Retrieving information is fairly intuitive. Note that nearly all of the data you retrieve can be loaded directly into Excel without the Add-In being used:

  • Company accounts and share price data: for basic data retrieval enter the name of the company you are looking for either in the Companies box (top left hand side), or in the Search box on the main page. Click on the company you require if more than one appears in the results list (generally UK companies have -LN for London at the end of their codes) and this will automatically display the Thomson Company Overview. Using the options under the Company Analysis tab on the left side you can select other display options such as Corporate Snapshot, Financials, and Ownership. Note that both Thomson and Worldscope company reports are available.
  • Selecting Prices can give you share price data for up to 10 years. Drop down menus at the top of financial reports enable you to change date periods, convert into other currencies, and download data directly into Excel. Note that it is possible to draw a variety of graphs.
  • Stock Exchange indices can be retrieved by clicking on the Indices tab on the left side. If you know the index mnemonic enter this in the Index box (top left side), otherwise click on the Index Lookup icon and enter the name e.g. FTSE 100.
  • Exchange rates and Economic indicators can be found by clicking on the Market awareness tab on the left side, then selecting either Currencies or Economics Data. Currency rates up to 10 years old can be retrieved for any frequency.
  • Targeting companies: create a targeted list of companies by status, location, financial criteria and industry classification. Click on the Screening & Targeting tab on the left side to display various search criteria.
  • News items on companies are updated daily by Thomson Financial News. Click on the News tab on the left side when you are looking at a company report.
  • Clicking on the Excel icon (X) on any screen loads the data directly into Excel.

How to obtain Investext reports

  • For Company reports follow the instructions at the top of the section above to look up and enter the quotation code for the company. Click on the Research tab in the left side obtain a list of reports on that company. Try to select the longer reports by the most prestigious companies (Morgan Stanley etc.) mentioned in the introduction above. Click on titles to obtain a contents list and click on the View button to obtain the pdf.
  • Otherwise you will have to enter a search yourself by clicking on the Conduct Research Reports Search tab that opens up under the Research tab when you click on it. It is quite difficult to explain in words how this works, so we have prepared a powerpoint presentation to explain it. This can be obtained by clicking on the following link (note that it is on the intranet so you will have to enter your Brookes username and password): https://www2.brookes.ac.uk/library/resources/thomsonpowerpoint.ppt
